I know how disappointed people would have been seeing our NEHL fixture at Thornley cancelled, it did give opportunities to train on the track with Simon and the gang though – several members took advantage of the extra session and popped along.
Note to all members, Saturday track sessions will compliment your training needs regardless of your experience and which distances you’re trying to focus on – speak to Simon Allen if you’re interested.
Despite the weather, we did have several members in action over the last week.
Armagh Internal Road Race
In its 32nd year of running the event, Armagh Athletics Club host one of the most hotly contested road races of the year with some of the fastest men and women travelling to compete.
The women’s race is a 3km race, our very own Sophie Pickett flying the Elswick flag ran a superb race in tough conditions running 10:07.
Well done Sophie – brilliant running 👏
In the men’s 5km race, Morpeth Harriers finished an impressive 3rd overall. And former member, Lewis Liddle now running with Gateshead Harriers ran 15.00 minutes.
Valentine’s Day Runs
A soggy Sunday on the Town Moor saw Run Nation host a number of races.
In the Half Marathon, Luke Hilliard was back in form finishing an impressive 2nd place with a cracking time of 1.14.
In the 10km, Imogen Bungay finished 1st female with a tremendous run, and mum Susanne Stephenson not far behind, Rob Lambert (47mins) and Melissa Bateson (53mins) were our other runners in the race.
There’s was a 5km race and 10km relay where couples ran 5km each – Danny and Eden teamed up to come home victorious.

Shout out:
Congratulations to Chris Mason who ran his 200th parkrun on Saturday and bagged a PB in the process.
Last Week:
Well done to Roland Brown who completed yet another half marathon, this time around the Town Moor and like the Valentine’s Day runs you could choose between 5km, 10km and half marathon – sorry I missed this last week.
Future Fixtures:
With two (possibly three if Thornley is rescheduled) XC fixtures still to go of the season, our men’s team have a chance of getting promoted but we need to get a big turn out in the next fixtures. Our women are in danger of relegation from Division 1 so equally need a big turnout.
