Juniors’ Food Bank Run Thursday 15 February

Having consumed our pancakes on Shrove Tuesday, the juniors turned their attention to charitable giving, another traditional practice of Lent.
Coach Rob Emson came up with the idea of the Food Bank Run last year and such was its popularity and success that it was unanimously agreed to organise it again. The juniors arrived on Thursday with bags of food to donate to the food bank collection at Sainsbury’s, Throckley. Heavier items were loaded into Harry’s and Ken’s cars whilst lighter items were carried by the athletes in back packs all the way up the hill to the supermarket.

Once inside the store, the juniors were greeted by staff and given a bottle of water whilst they deposited their contributions in the collection boxes. The volume of chatter increased ten fold with the presence of our 30 juniors in what was otherwise a quiet Thursday evening in Sainsbury’s. We couldn’t leave without a photo to capture the occasion before we completed our run to Walbottle and back to Newburn where we finished with some fast strides by the old people’s home. Mission completed for 2024.

Thanks to everyone who made a donation and well done to everyone who took part.
