Weekly race round up – 14th April to 20th April.

Let’s start off with the main show… A brilliant morning at One North East where we hold our Good Friday Relays.

Huge thanks to Graham Bell who is instrumental in organising our successful races. The Good Friday’s don’t happen without the support of Homes England and Northumbria Police and the many helpers involved – we thank you all for your continued support…

Friday saw a little over 850 runners taking part across 5 different different races. We implemented a slight change to the course this year with the start and finish moving further up the disused section of road, this change proved popular for the runners.

With 64 Elswick Harrier athletes taking part, we managed to pick up Junior, Senior and Veteran prizes.

We celebrated two junior prizes with Dominic Tomlinson claiming and impressive 2nd place in the under 11 race and Ayla Blight with a super run finishing 2nd in the under 13 girls race.

The adults took inspirations for our talented juniors, our Senior Ladies team of Imogen Bungay, Erin Blight and Sophie Pickett picked up 3rd place with our very own Sophie Pickett matching Birtley’s Lydia Turner leg time to finish quickest females on the day. And, in the v40 Women’s category our ladies team of Felicity Smith, Jude Nutt and Justina Heslop secured first place. Our men’s v50 team of James Douglas, Andy Green, Mike Russell and Mark Turnbull picked up 3rd place.

It was brilliant to see new faces taking part in the relays.

Well done to everyone, special thanks to all our helpers on the day – without you, the race doesn’t go ahead.

The Moors Traverse

A jump back in time where James Sunley competed the Moors Traverse on the 6th April. James is fond of a challenging event, he done amazing to finish in 15th place.

“The Moors Traverse® is an 80km ultra following Wainwright’s coast to coast route from Ingleby Cross to Robin Hood’s Bay. The event has an adventurous ethos and culture of self-sufficiency.”

Bamburgh Duathlon

The Bell brothers continued their multi sport combat against each other. It was Adam who took the win with Andy having to make do for 2nd place.

It looks like it was Adam’s changeover that proved the different for the two… I look forward to their future battles…

Achievements:

Our group None to Runners graduated this week and celebrated with a parkrun at Tyne Green. Well done to Amy Brady, Helen Dobson, Rebecca Barnes, Cat Waugh, Leanne Rose, Kayley Grady, Shona Nicholson and Alexis Maule completing the 12 week course, Alexis enjoyed it that much she’s don’t it twice now!

Thank you to Simon and his helpers. The next course will start in September.

Another celebration, Kieth Lisle completed his 250th parkrun. An amazing achievement for someone that claims not to be a runner – he really does have that running bug, completing the 250 and other weird and wonderful parkrun challenges in such a short space of time. Big sis Mary supported him round his first on the Town Moor and was there again with a few from the club to support him on his 250th.
