Coniston Lakeland Trails – 16km challenge
An annual weekend getaway to the Lakes wouldn’t be complete without a long distance mountain race – well that’s the view of Mr and Mrs Hall. One of their favourite events of the year is the Coniston Lakeland 16km – described as an event for less competitive runners and fitness walkers who want to take it easy and enjoy the terrific views! The race is open to those age 18 and over with a cut of time of 3 and a half hours. This year it attracted 264 participants.

The Halls have a great track record in this race. Mary finished in 58th position (11th F40) in a fantastic time of 1:45:23. Ben was the overall winner in a time of 1:21:27 improving on his second place position last year. I’m sure he’ll return in 2026 to defend his title.

Swansea Half Marathon

Having qualified last year, Susanne Stephenson ran as an England age group representative in the Swansea Half Marathon – her first England vest. It’s a great achievement for any athlete, but particularly for Susanne who has overcome a terrible injury to her leg involving major surgery.

Susanne ran a very impressive time in her F55 race. She finished in 1:37:12 and was 11th in her age category, (134th finisher out of a field of 2,332). A day to remember for Susanne and supporter Imogen.

Other news:
Michelle is usually an avid Elswick spectator, taking plentiful photos of many of our runners in race events. However, in mid-May she was in action herself in Pamploma, Spain. Michelle was selected to represent GB in the European Middle Distance Aquabike Championship. Another great achievement, this time spectated by Hazel who took charge of the photography.

Great to hear about the sporting endeavours of all our athletes and those closely connected to the club. Don’t hestitate to let me and Ben know of the events that our Elswick members are taking part in.
Next week is a big one – Blaydon Race on Monday 9 June and the third fixture of the Senior Development League (track and field) at Whitley Bay on Sunday 15 June. Check out the post on FB to sign up for the various events or speak to Eric Lewis at training. Here’s the timetable of events:
