Report By Jan&Ken
We went to Blaydon Races ‘twas on the ninth of Joon,
Twenty hundred and twenty five, on a cloudy afternoon
We took the kids from Newburn an’ they were heavy laden
gannin along the Scotswood road to see the junior races.
This was the first time that the junior race was organised with chip timing and prizes. All participants received a goody bag and a really nice medal.
The weather was not great, but nothing compared to later when some parents and coaches were running in the main race and the rain was really heavy.
Although very well organised it was very difficult for some parents to do their own race and watch the juniors.
The junior course was run on grass on an undulating course which was quite slippery in places. In what was an excellent turnout from all the clubs in the North East, the resulting start was quite congested.
There were two races – the first one, approximately one mile in length, combined boys and girls aged eight to eleven; the second race, approximately two miles, combined boys and girls aged twelve to sixteen.
Provisional Results as follows:
Race one 8-11
Girls – 3rd Rosa Tadele 6.25 – 5th Lily Mould 6.35 – 16th Maisey Mould 7.08 – 26th Isla Logan 7.32 (making her Elswick debut)
Boys – 20th Josh Shane 6.37 – 25th Edison Davies 6.51 – 41st Harry Robson 7.37
