Temple Park, South Shields, 6th January 2024
The Sherman Cup was donated to the local cross country league by Sherman’s football pools in 1949. In 2002 former Harrier League secretaries Pam and Ron Davison donated a trophy so that the ladies could compete in a similar competition to the men. All ages apart from u/11s count towards the overall points; these races differed from the Harrier League: No packs – all scratch races. Three score per team. Due to injury and illness plus other commitments we could not fill all teams in the age categories, However still an excellent turnout and very well done to all our juniors who represented themselves and the club with great performance’s. Also parents, grandparents and coaches who braved the mud to support our juniors.
Although the weather was fairly kind considering we were a mile from the North Sea, the conditions underfoot were horrendous “mud mud glorious mud” as the song goes well if you ask the athletes we are sure they will tell you it was not so glorious. During the course of the day more spikes were lost than in Start Fitness footwear department. Sherman Cup/Davison placings see NEHL website when they are up.
