Sunday 31st July 2022
A race of 3 legs of approximately 1.88 miles over a single lap of an undulating, fast, mainly tarmac course in the parkland of Newcastle Great Park with separate male and female teams of 3 for seniors and vets (female v35, male v40).
With the name of the race stating Summer, it was a far cry from the weather we are used to running at these friendly relays. It felt like more of a damp Autumn morning with drizzle in the air which was perfect for running despite the head wind on the return journey back to hand over.
Well done to Simone and Charlie making their relay debuts it was great to see them both being part of our relays squads which we get so much success in. And success came the lady’s way as Felicity, Sara and Arabella claimed 1st vet female team as well as finishing as 3rd overall female team.
Then success came the vet men’s way for Richard, Mark and Andrew Ball who were victors of the vet men category with Mark running the fastest v50 leg whilst Andrew was the fastest v40
Well done to all that took part and gave up their Sunday morning to wear our popular colours especially those that stepped in at the last minute to ensure we fielded 5 complete teams.

4th overall team total time 29.53 consisting of Charlie Welton 10.15, Daniel Spoor 9.52, Andrew Bell 9.46, this team ran as senior men.
Winners of the V40 men category 7th overall team total time 31.22 consisting of Richard Houghton 10.48, Mark Turnbull 10.28, Andrew Ball 10.06
16th overall team total time 34.12 consisting of Paul Taylor 11.07, Peter Dawson 12.06, Simon Allen 10.59, this team ran as vet men.
Winners of the V35 ladies category 23rd overall team total time 36.14 consisting of Felicity Smith 11.42, Sara Blight 12.21, Arabella Arnott 12.11
55th overall team total time 43.45 consisting of Simone King 15.58, Imogen King 13.46, Jayne Cuskern 14.01, this team ran as senior ladies.
