Social Parkrun @ The Rising Sun

Report written by Stephen Naylor

Please see below a team photo from Saturday 30th July Social Parkrun Tour at Rising Sun.

In total 15 ½ Elswicks turned out on what was a rather grey and rainy (albeit hot and sticky) morning to run their 5k. Rising Sun is currently operating an alternative route due to damage caused by Storm Arwen last year, with only around 10% of the old course being used on this current route! The mostly flat temporary route in place consists of well maintained trail paths, some grassy sections and lots of enjoyable twists and turns through high trees. With it being a temporary course however it does come in a little over 5k at around 3.22 miles! Despite this I think everyone would agree it was a great course and well worth a visit if you get a chance before it switches back next year!

Despite the weather conditions everyone came and ran their own race with it being the first time here for 6 of our runners. We also had 4 Elswicks put in a very good shift landing into the top 10 out of a total field of 210! Well done to Richard Houghton 4th, Ryan Davison 5th, Paul Jones 9th and Paul Robinson 10th. Special mention must also go to Jayne Cuskern who knocked nearly 5 minutes off her previous Rising Sun PB which she set back in 2019 as well as one of our Junior runners Charlotte Taylor who set yet another ParkRun PB despite the course being well over 5k distance!!

A final special mention must also go to Daniel Nettle who celebrated his 200th Parkrun with us yesterday!

It is always great to see so many Elswick turn up for a good chat and an enjoyable run at these socials and a huge well done to everyone on their performances. Hopefully we can continue to grow the turnout into our August social which will be announced soon! If you haven’t been down to one yet then you can expect a very enjoyable morning with friends!
