Report from Jan and Ken
As the song goes “oh we do like to be beside the seaside, oh we do like to be beside the sea” however the only sand we saw was in the long jump, and as there was no steeplechase we did not see any water. What we did see though was a determined bunch of Elswick Juniors putting their training to good use and representing themselves their families and the club with a great deal of pride.
We think everyone will agree this has not been the easiest of times, and this was probably the most difficult north east youth development leagues (NEYDL) to organise since we entered this league. Take it from us these events don’t happen by accident and a lot of hard work goes on behind the scenes.
On that note we have to mention Kerrie Old who has worked tirelessly to put everything together to make these events go ahead. Many thanks to Kerrie and the NEYDL official’s.
On what was a glorious day at Whitley Bay, Churchill playing fields numbers were down across all teams due to athletes having to isolate. However that that did not stop those who could compete performing to the best of their ability in red hot conditions. Also great to see coaches, parents and grandparents out in numbers to support the junior’s.
Yet again we teamed up with our friends from South Shields. There are too many results to list individually but if you go on the NEYDL website you will find provisional results there. We finished 3rd team on the day. A great experience for everyone. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1O8nheO5YDHfEOVxDglnz-pbH21xtot7Z/view?usp=sharing

You have to enter this race yourself, although entries are taken on the day. Then the Watergate 2K Thursday 26th August (please note there will be no training that night as the coaches will be attending this race) hosted by low fell running club. Same again you have to enter this race yourselves Andrea has posted details on the junior facebook page.
