BMAF 5K Relay Champs

For the first time in quite some time we had runners compete in the BMAF 5k Championships which however was held virtually from 14th to 20th June with runners competing over 6, 4 or 3 stages depending on age. Runners could run loops or an out and back course with the rule to start and finish in roughly the same area.

Over 4000 runners aged 35+ took part in this event which has raised over £12000 for Macmillan Cancer Support. Our male vets team 45-54 ran over 4 legs and finished 20th which consisted of Jason Old 17.08, Mike Russell 17.35, Martin Connelly 18.06 and Mark Turnbull 18.19, these were incredible times ran by dedicated and enthusiastic runners as I’m sure you will agree, there is hope for us younger runners yet.

Our younger vets certainly felt the added pressure from the times ran by the 45-54 group on a Tuesday night. However come the Saturday our 35-44 male team produced some atomising times and ran pb’s which lead to that team finishing in 57th which consisted of 6 runners. Steve Robertson 16.48pb, Richard Houghton 17.20pb, Scott Brady 16.32pb, Paul Taylor 20.33, Rob Young 19.59pb and Simon Allen 19.49 who down aged for this event so that we had a complete team. A huge pat on the back to Paul Taylor who is currently on his return from injury.

The ladies 45-54 managed to get a complete team of 3 out who were Andrea Banner 20.27, Lindsey Grant 22.07 and Debbie Spoor 23.05. Well done to the ladies who came home in 33rd position.

This has been a brilliant event to engage with and hopefully we as club could support this event in the future by travelling and running at the 12 stage and 6 stage relays.
