In what was the penultimate meeting of 2026 Elswick Juniors were yet again on show, teaming up with South Shields. Elswick had 20 athletes competing despite quite a few participating at schools competitions at Gateshead the day before and South Shields had three.
We used to say that our juniors were competing outside their comfort zone, but not so much now with Andrea, Chris and Eric putting on extra track and field sessions particularly throws.
Although we were at the coast, the only sand we saw was in the long jump. The weather very hot, great for spectators, a bit warm for some of the running events. In fact it was fitting that today is the summer solstice with once again our juniors bringing sunshine to the track.
The ice cream man did a brisk trade and even had to go and get more stock.
Yet again there were PBs galore. As usual the Elswick support was second to none with coaches, parents, grandparents, aunties and uncles etc. Even a dad’s and grandad’s race celebrating father’s day not sure who won, but it great fun for our juniors.

The next meeting is on Sunday 19th July at Shildon, Sunnydale Leisure Centre, DL4 2EP. It would be great to have a good turnout at the final fixture. Please post any photos that have been taken.
