NEMAA Road Relays – Jarrow

It was a successful night in Bedewell Park, where we fielded 7 relay teams.
Our women set the tone with a 2nd and 3rd finish in the v45 race.
Our team over the line was lead out by Felicity Smith who, ran a strong leg handing over to Mary Hall in 7th place overall. Mary stormed round the course despite suffering from a cold to keep the team in contention. Justina Heslop picked up the baton and flew round the course to bring the team home in 4th place overall and 2nd in their age group.

Team 2 were also on fine form – a stella run from Andrea Banner who followed on from her impressive victory run at the British Masters last week. Bella Pearce was on second leg, brilliant to see Bella back in the vest and running a super quick leg to put the pressure on the teams ahead. Debbie fresh from London Marathon, those legs have done many miles over the past months but show no signs of slowing down as she powered round the course to secure 3rd place in their age group.

In team 3 there was lots to shout about too with Lisa Allan leading out the team and securing PBs galore, Maxine Cottam was next out and running her first relay for the club – it’s been some journey from N2R to GNR and now relays. Sarah Muparutsa was on last leg bringing the team home to a good time.
Super running as always from our women – you always set the barrier high for the men to follow.

In team 1 (v35), we had all three Bells running in the same team for the first time ever. David lead the team out handing over Adam in 5th place. Adam had a cracking run who also handed over in 5th. Andrew was on the final leg and ran down two teams to secure the 3rd place finish overall.

Team 2 (v35) wasn’t too far away finishing 15th overall – Kirk Haddon, running his first race for the club was quick out the blocks and held that speed on the two lap course, handing over to Paul Taylor who showed he’s in fine shape running a great leg. Dave Jones was drafted in at last minute and took the glory leg, he put in a solid performance to secure 15th overall.
Team 3 (v45) James Douglas done what he does best putting the team in a great position handing over in 13th overall. Roland Brown ran a solid second leg on the improved route, Chris Pearce another late recruit ran well bring them home in 20th place overall.
Team 4 (v55) Mike Russell put a good shift in on first leg to put the team in a good position for a medal, Martin Connelly gained a couple of places to keep those medal hopes alive before handing over to Andy Green who ran a cracking leg bringing the team home in 25th overall and 3rd in their age group.

A brilliant evenings running, well done all!
Les Allcorn 10km
Hosted by Alnwick Harriers, their 10km route takes you through the picturesque Hulme Park – it’s a lovely undulating route.
Results are still to be posted so not sure how many ran… I know Lee Coulson loved the route especially the detour up the incorrect hill his group took… who doesn’t like an extra hill..:
Sunderland Runs
In Sunderland we had 7 taking part, 4 in the 10km and 3 in the half marathon on a very hot Sunday!
In the 10km, Sarah Muparutsa was back in action and pipped Sean to the finishing – the family bragging rights stay with Sarah on this occasion. Joanne Webber ran a fine race going under 50 mins. And first of our athletes home Steve Dobson ran a great race running under 39 mins.

And in the half marathon, Martin Connelly was also back in action running very good race in this heat, finishing 12th in his age cat.
Tony and Andrea Banks also took on the half marathon – they love the longer races. Tony was our first athlete home and secured 2nd place in his age category, Andrea not to be outdone ran a superb race to also finish 2nd in her age category.
NECCA Championships Track and Field Championships
Hazel Bough was back in track competition running an 800m PB to finish 4th quickest on the day and 2nd for her category.
