National Cross Country Relays @ Berry Hill Park Mansfield,
Senior women 3x3km
Andrea Banner wrote “We participated for the second consecutive year – one senior women’s team along with four junior teams. The event was first held in 1985 at Crystal Palace and since 1989 has been held at centrally located Berry Hill Park, Mansfield, ensuring a broad representation of clubs from all around the country. Over 1,000 teams participated in the event which has ten races over the course of the day, culminating in the spectacle of the men’s race.
The course is fantastic – no rutted farmer’s fields, no thistles and nettles, no major inclines. The park venue offers smooth grass, gentle undulations and weaving leaf strewn paths through a woodland area. The compactness of the course means that spectators can move around and catch sight of runners in more than one place. There was only a few light showers early in the day and a very light breeze – conditions were perfect for November.
We had a last minute change to the senior women’s team when Jude Nutt had to pull out on Friday afternoon on discovering her son (who was meant to compete) had come down ill. Sara Blight was on hand to step into the team. First leg was completed by Joanne Brown, followed by Sara and then me. Our times over the 3k course were remarkably similar – 13.09, 13.59 and 13.09 respectively, finishing in 88th position out of 139 complete teams. We were chuffed to bits given we were a vets team up against the best senior teams in the country.
Our four junior teams competed in the under 13 boys, under 15 girls, under 15 boys and under 17 girls races. It was great to watch them perform in such a competitive event before we embarked on our race. We saw the start of the men’s race as we began packing up for home. It’s an impressively fast race taking in two full laps of the course (4 legs of 5k). We’ve had men’s teams compete in the past so hopefully next year we can entice some men and more women to take part.”

Our own Norman Woodcocks relays @ Gosforth Park
Thanks to all clubs that participated and to our amazing volunteers who pulled the event together including Graham Bell who did a fine job as always in taking the lead in organising the special event with Ben and Simon in close support. Amazing to see so many of our members coming together on a chilly sunny Sunday morning to make this event happen whether you ran or volunteered we really did put on a good show. Some incredible times ran with Hazel and Sean running their first relays whilst Rob Coulson ran his first race in 18 years.
Field size 105 with all runners running 1 complete 1.66 mile clockwise lap of the Ambulance track.

V40 team consisting of Steve Horn 8.16 Justina Heslop 9.16 Andrew Ball 8.41 finished in 6th position and overall 1st v40 team with a combined time of 26.13.

Town Moor Half Marathon hosted by North East Marathon Club
Andrew Bell wrote “Just finished the town moor half marathon in 2nd place behind Conrad Franks. Ran together the whole way but he got the better of me in the last 500 metres. The course was littered with sharp bends and gates and of course the usual town moor wind! Really happy with the result and felt really strong throughout”

Wooler Half Marathon hosted by Trail Outlaws
The race starts in Wooler before heading towards some of the best views in the country. A challenging Trail Half Marathon with just over 2400 feet of ascent, but the views available are well worth the effort.

TCS New York Marathon
Congratulations to Scott Brady on picking up his long awaited 6 star medal for completing Abbott World Marathon Majors which include Tokyo, Boston, London, Berlin and Chicago. I full well know the commitment and dedication that goes into completing this series which is very special. I am chuffed to bits for Scott who stuck his heels in and stuck to the challenge and completed his goal.
Here are a few words from our Scott:
“What an experience! Day started with a 5:30am bus to the athlete’s village. The marathon was the hottest in its history at 23 degrees which really brought the crowds out, personal highlights were going through queens where the crowds swamped the roads and the Bronx where every 20m there was a different band or ghetto blaster
Got to love the Americans enthusiasm from all the volunteers which were added to the experience. Also had easily a hundred go Elswick cheers as well
Super proud to complete the 6 majors and highly recommend it to anyone who loves an excuse to travel”
