Race Round Up 26th September to 2nd October 2022, Kielder, London and Glasgow!!!

Saturday 1st October

Kielder 10k Hosted by Events of the North

Route takes in the stunning Bull Crag Peninsula of Kielder Water.

David Jones took time to write these words about his experience – “Saturday 1st October saw me have another attempt at the Kielder 10k, my last attempt being in 2016, this time however the route was in reverse. Starting and finishing at Waterside Park, the route set off along the perimeter of Kielder Water at a quick tempo, following the runners in the run bike run event. After an undulating but scenic first 5k, the predicted rain came down which made for a wet, muddy, but fun end to the race. The ‘big hill’ was at 7k where I tried to save some energy to pick up the pace off the hill and finish strong over the last 2km in a time of 42.17, an 8 minute PB compared to back in 2016. Nice to see other Elswick Harriers too – well done!”

TCS London Marathon

Our 4 runners taking part in this event which forms part of the Abbott World Marathon Majors were greeted by perfect conditions and a wall of noise of noise in the capital.

Here is what our athletes had to say.

One of my favourite marathons and my 7th London experience and one I wanted to enjoy, and I did. Ran with my head and knowledge knowing my current fitness levels & everything else, I knew I wasn’t in sub 3 shape however I knew I wouldn’t be far away! Only wobble I had was around 22.5 miles where I became really hot, clammy and dizzy however thankfully it passed, even when I was low there were others going through the motions and its awesome how a shout out helps out. Unfortunately, I cannot make next year but I will return in 2024 but I’m sure there will be another marathon ran between now and then.

Steve said on FB – “Thanks for the messages of support. Today didn’t go well at all with me having shivers and goosebumps from 8 mile then being sick at 15 miles. I think I might be done with marathons. Had a good weekend away though and got a couple of nice medals and t-shirt”

Debbie wrote – “London Marathon 2022

After a disappointing Edinburgh Marathon in May where I really struggled from mile 16 and I took every opportunity to walk. Today was about getting my confidence back.

I set out hoping to run sub 3.40 but really would have loved to get closer to my PB 3.34.

I finished in 3.40.12, just out of my target.  But still my second fastest marathon and therefore I am happy.

Anyone who has ran a marathon before will understand. When you stand on that start line you just pray nothing goes wrong to prevent you finishing.  Your time is just a bonus.

Despite all of your best efforts and training there are so many things can go wrong on the day – muscle cramps, stomach issues, dehydration, injury, illness.

So today I am thankful to have just completed my 8th marathon and look forward to the next”

Yvette following the run mentioned – “London marathon amazing experience smiled so much, the support around the course was amazing and highlight meeting Mr Motivator at the start. What a day”

Congratulations to you all, you have worked hard over the past few months and dedicated your life to training which is sometimes very challenging to squeeze in however if there is a will there is often a way. 26.2 miles is still 26.2 miles no matter what time you ran, you should be very proud of yourselves. The support was incredible from family and friends to other supporters along the way, a wall of noise and encouragement just amazing to witness.

Enjoy the moment and have a break to reset and let those muscles repair!

Great Glasgow Half Marathon hosted by Great Run

Thoughts of Rob Lambert – “Very well-run race part of Great Run races, choice of early morning 10k option or 11am half marathon run. Quite flat 1 hill that you do immediately more or less after that just a few slight inclines I would say. Scottish bagpipes at each mile to keep you on track. For me 97min 29sec, shocked to be in top 1000 at 921st, 24th veteran in age group.

921st Rob lambert 1.38.02
