North East Harrier XC League @ Aykley Heads

Hills and mud topped off with snow and that rare occasion where the sun made an appearance and off course those strong winds which didn’t seem too bad, this was a proper XC! We love XCs like this or in Saturday’s case once it was over and you were home showered and warmed up with a lovely brew in your hands. Looking back it was actually good fun with fantastic character shown from all that attended.

Hours before the races the Harrier league Committee faced a difficult decision in whether the event could happen after the red weather warning on Friday night and after the destruction that storm Arwen left behind. After a course inspection at 8am it was full steam ahead in which many queried, the correct decision was heard all around tent village.

Yes, numbers were down to previous events however that didn’t put off our hardy souls of Elswick Harriers and we took full advantage. A fantastic turn out, I praise you all, both of senior teams now sit proudly top of their respective tables after digging deep.

Thanks to Ben Hall for coming along early to help pitch the tent in time for the junior events, even Bill McGuirk was on hand to help not just us but other teams who were pitching up.

Chris Pearce also decided to run on his birthday, now that’s dedication to the cause.

Elswick first 4 finishers 3-Fuller   12-Nutt   16-Spoor   28-Blight came 2nd in Division 1 with 59 points. Whilst our next 3 finishers made up an Incomplete team 30-Pearce   39-Smith   50-Bateson.

Elswick mens first 6 finishers 5-Bell   6-Dixon   17-Brady   29-Houghton   35-Rewcastle   41-Taylor came in 3rd place in Division 2 with 133 points. Whilst our next 6 finishers of 42-Hardy   55-Mcenaney   56-Ball   66-Coulson   87-Allen   94-Hall racked up 400 points finishing joint 8th. In our 3rd but incomplete team we had 100-Pearce   102-Dawson   103-Jones   118-Jobson.
