Redcar April 1st 2923
How does the song go “Oh we do like to be beside, Oh we do like to be beside the sea”. Well Elswick Juniors and their supporters certainly did.
On what was a very cold, windy day. Elswick Juniors performed brilliantly on the coast road venue at Redcar. It may have been April the 1st however there were no fools amongst the Elswick contingent.
Redcar is famous for its steel works, sadly in recent times this has been in decline, this did not stop our juniors bringing a bit of steel back to Redcar but bringing home gold.
With teams coming from Leeds, Hull, Rotherham and Liverpool to name but a few this is a Northern Championship.
Most of our juniors had not done a competitive 5K before, making the results even more impressive. Great running from them all.
First race of the day was the under 15 boys:
20th Sam Allison 17.44 – 28th Aiden Jones 19.15 – 29th Liam Coulson 19.41
4th Team
Under 15 girls:
8th Poppy Wilde 20.23 – 18th Hannah Waterhouse 23.22 No full team.
Under 17 boys
37th Bailey Shore 21.17 No full team
Under 17 girls:
2nd Imogen Bungay 17.51 3rd Poppy Old 17.57 – 9th Bella Russell 20.30
1st team Our girls are now Northern 5K Road champions a big well done.
Medals presented by Baroness Tanni Grey-Thompson.
All their good training put to use. Thanks to Andrea for her coordination sorting out the juniors and senior ladies teams.
And as always thanks to all the officials who were there for hours in very cold conditions.
