With cross country spikes and wellies put away, on what was a cold but sunny day it was time for the first track and field of the season.
After last year’s success by Elswick winning all meetings our Elswick Junior’s were promoted to division one. It’s fair to say it was quite a jump competing against Harrogate, Darlington, North Shields, Gateshead and New Marske .
We were once again teamed up with our friends from South Shields. However this did not stop our juniors impressing with grit and determination.
There were a few of our juniors experiencing track and field for the first time, so naturally there were a few nerves on show, not just the athletes but parents also.
To try and allay those nerves Andrea with the help of the junior coaches have been putting on some “come and try” events on the last two Thursday nights previous to this meeting , this in turn proved to be invaluable. There were a few personal bests and all season bests !!
Never forget how far we have come since we first entered these leagues in 2018 (no meetings in 2020 due to Covid) with very few athletes taking part.
The next meeting is closer to home at Whitley bay on Sunday the 21st of May. Please keep your numbers.
Hopefully we will have more of our juniors taking part. Tell your fellow athletes what a great experience these events are when all our juniors come to together as one big team.
