North Eastern Cross Country Championship 11th December 2021 Sedgefield.
It was great to see the cross country championships back on this year after the event being cancelled last year due to covid. This was the first time it had been cancelled since it’s inception in 1894, apart from the war years. This year it was hosted by Sedgefield harriers who fully supported by North East officials who organised another great day of racing.
With very little wind and a grey skies, conditions weren’t bad for racing. Despite nearly getting washed away during Thursdays training Elswick juniors yet again donned there Elswick vests against the best in the whole of the North East.
The first race from an Elswick viewpoint was the under 11 boys, these races are classed as non competitive !! As a result no teams are declared. Under 11 boys 15th Oliver Hawkes 7.18 – 29th Jack Houghton 8.08 – 30th George Russell 8.13
Under 15 boys 21st Sam Allison 17.23 – 42nd Bailey Shore 19.11
Under 15 girls 5th Poppy Old 16.23 – 9th Poppy Wilde 18.21 – 11th Lucy Milburn 18.41 – 28th Bella Russell. Darlington were Ist team and Elswick a fantastic 2nd team just a few points behind.
Under 17 girls 5th Imogen Bungay 21.05 Under 20 girls 14th Emily Allison 25.05 – 17th Imogen King 26.32 . The U/17/20 ran in a combined race and they came a well deserved 7th place.
Well done Elswick juniors, this race can lead to selection into the Inter-counties. The next North East Harrier League is on Saturday 8th January you all have your numbers already for this series of races. Next Championship race is the Northern Cross Country 29th January which is held at Pontefract this is a separate race where you need to be entered Andrea has put a post on junior Facebook about this race. This race is also taken into consideration for the Inter- counties.
