Juniors Report – North East Cross Country Championships, Alnwick 14/12/19.

Well what a day for Elswick Juniors in the North East Cross Country Championships. After a break of 25 years the Championship returned to the pastures in Alnwick.

Although the temperatures were low with a very cold biting wind, this did not stop Alnwick Harriers and the organising committee hosting a superb days racing for all competitors and spectators.
The first race of the day from an Elswick viewpoint was in the under 11 Girls race. Zara Bungay making her cross country debut in an Elswick vest finished 18th.
Next up looking a bit lonely on the starting line in the under 13 Boys race, flying the Elswick flag was Jake Stroud finishing 27th in a time of 16.20. We then moved on to the under 13 Girls race, first Elswick girl across the line in 6th position was Poppy Wilde in a time of 15.44 followed by Poppy Old in 12th (16.26), Poppy showed great courage as she fell at the start of the race, but got up and chased down the pack. Lucy Milburn came 28th (17.27).Sydney Bungay 38th (18.13).

Sophie Henderson 42nd (18.22).Ruby Russell 48th (18.45).Bella Russell 52nd (19.31). With three to count,Elswick Under 13 Juniors Girls can now proudly say that they are North East Cross Country champions for the year 2019.
Excellent results Girls.

In the under 15 Girls race we had Imogen Bungay finishing 18th (18.48) followed by Lauren Stroud 41st (22.20). Well done Girls. Next it was on to the U17’s athletes and once again they did not disappoint. Great running once again.

Moving on to those races: The Under 17 Boys race. It was great to see we had two athletes in this event Tom Milburn 37th (27.57) and Max Young 41st (28.45). Great stuff lads. The next race was the ladies combined under 17/20 race. With two of our most consistent performers turning out . Suzy Fielding 19th in the overall race however 11th in U/17 22.45, Hannah Tumia 20th in the overall race 12th in U/17. Fantastic as usual Ladies. Don’t forget our girls and boys were competing against the best in the North East of the Country. All in all a great day, many thanks for Tommy bringing the tent, and Jason, Kerrie and Gillian somehow putting it up.

The next Cross Country is the Sherman Cup/Davison shield at South Shields on the 4th of January when we need as many Elswick Harriers turning out as possible. Jan and Ken.
