Aykley Heads Durham NEHL 25th November 2023
Elswick juniors laced up their spikes once again, for the 3rd meeting in the NEHL series of races due the postponement of the lambton event hopefully rearranged in March . With sun and very little wind it was a glorious autumn day.
Durham have just hosted the lumiere festival, commissioned by Durham country council, finishing on the 19th of November. So it was quite fitting that Durham county hall was the venue for this event. This is probably the last time cross country will be held at this venue. Our take on it was, the officers at the council thought how do we continue this theme, and the thought process was if we host the cross country meeting Elswick Junior’s will lighten up any occasion, and they certainly did.
This is what the traditionalists call “proper cross country” with rolling hills, mud, long grass and tight parts of the course. Well done to all the Elswick Juniors who competed also parents and coaches for supporting the athletes. A special thank you to all for officials for organising this event, don’t forget they are first there and last to leave.
Also many thanks to Andrea yet again bringing the tent and her band of helpers erecting it then competing herself.
