Churchill Playing Fields, Monkseaton, 21st May 2023
Churchill Playing Fields was built on the site of East Farm, which was the last working farm in Monkseaton. The Duke of Northumberland sold the farm land to Whitley Bay Council in 1958 , who developed it for recreation purposes.
In between covid times the track and the facilities were upgraded thanks to the work of North Shields Poly trustees, and North Tyneside Council, and what a great job they have done.
On what was a lovely May day with only a slight breeze Elswick Junior’s and supporters turned out in force once again. So many juniors getting PBS, we believe even the ice cream man got a PB as he sold so many.
Although we were competing against the top clubs in the North East and North Yorkshire, it was great to hear officials commenting on all the new Elswick Junior’s coming through, feel very proud of yourselves .
Each year we get stronger, if for whatever reason you could not do this event or have never done one ask your fellow athletes what sense of achievement you feel when you have completed these at these events, put your name down for the next one.
These meetings are all about the athletes, however we can’t post this without mentioning Andrea first there and last away, team manger, tent erector etc the list goes on. Also thanks to the officials spending all day in the sun. If anyone has taken photos please feel free to add to post.
Next meeting 25th June Shildon Sunnydale Leisure Centre post code. DL4 2EP .
