North East Youth Development League

Sunday 22/05/2022 – Whitley Bay

How does the song go? “Oh we do like to be beside the seaside, Oh we do like to be beside the sea”.

Elswick juniors, parents, grandparents and coaches certainly did.

Even if the only sand we could see was in the long jump pit, no water – only from the rain late in the day; we did witness a sea of Elswick vests.

On what was a mixture of cloud, sun and rain, Elswick juniors team once again teamed up with our friends from South Shields.

This was a record turnout from Elswick juniors, with a few making their track and field debuts.

The junior coaches have recently been putting on a few field practice events to grow confidence with the juniors (thanks Andrea) also Saturday track training (thanks Simon) and it’s certainly starting to pay dividends.

We are delighted to say for the second event in the series that we won once again so “we are top of the league, we said we are top of the league”.

Well done to everyone who competed this really is a team event.

We also won the noisiest crowd of the event as when the commentator read out the scores during the meeting we are sure we could be heard in Tynemouth.

Also a special thanks to the officials who give up their day on a voluntary basis, without them these meetings could not take place.

If anyone can help out in this area please step forward. In particular for the last meeting at Whitley Bay on the 17th of July as Elswick have to host this one.

The more hands to the pump the better, it’s not complicated raking a sand pit or holding a tape measure with expert guidance.

The next NEYDL is at Jarrow on the 26th June, if you have not done one put your name down, ask your training partners and they will tell you what a fun day it is.

We cannot finish this report without a special mention for Kerrie Old for putting this all together and make this go as smooth as possible.
