Juniors take on the Heaton Memorial races

Report from Jan & Ken

Heaton Memorial Races 14th November 2021 Town Moor Newcastle.

It was great to be back on the town moor for this prestigious race. Heaton harriers and the north east officials hosted an excellent series of races from juniors to seniors once again. The conditions on the whole made for an excellent day for course records. With a little bit of rain falling during the the junior events, but surprisingly no wind most unusual for the town moor. The main race of the day is the seniors 10k, I am sure Richard will be reporting on what was an excellent day for the Elswick harriers.

The very first Heaton Memorial Road Race took park in 1920 to remember those who died in the Great War. Heaton, in common with many other North East clubs lost many of their young men in the conflict between 1914 -18. Out of the 120 Heaton members registered at the time – 100 served in the forces – 12 never to return.

Another great turnout for our Junior runners.
