Girl Power certainly came out in force today. It’s meetings like this shows how far the Junior section of the club have come. We are gradually competing more and more outside the region with some excellent performances in this case against the best in the North of England. With a heavy bias from top clubs in the north west due to the events location.
Nine under 15 girls left Newburn at 7.45 this morning to travel to Leigh Sports Village for the Northern road relay championships.
After a brief stop at Tebay services to look at the prices, they arrived and got ready to race.
To have three under 15 girls teams is fantastic and full credit to Sara Blight and Steven Bond and Andrea Banner for getting them there on what was a long day.
The course itself was 3.2K over 3 legs with a 12.20 start for our athletes at the home of Keely Hodgkinson home town club Leigh Harriers.
On a mostly flat, but slightly muddy course over 3.2k, all of the girls gave everything they had and wore Elswick’s colours with pride.
We were first ,second and fourth North East Team (fantastic)

Elswick C 1st Leg Sofia Sedgwick 13.39 2nd Leg Jemima Bond – 13.59 – 3d Leg Ava Stephenson 14.36 Overall Position 36th 42.15
