Shibdon Ponds, Blaydon
“We went to the junior races was on the 9th June 2024 on a Sunday afternoon we took the bus from Newburn it was heavy laden gannin over Scotswood bridge that’s on the road to Blaydon. Oh me lads you you should of seen us gannin passing the folks along the road just as they were stannin, all the lads and lasses their all with smiling faces gannin along the Scotswood road to the junior races.”
We hope everyone reading this is singing along.
The organisers of the Blaydon race put on two races in the afternoon for young athletes to participate in at Shipdon pond before the main event in the evening of the Blaydon race, when Elswick seniors will be out in force .
The first race was for up to age 11 at 1.30 pm approximately 1 mile over cross country terrain with undulating hills. The second one approximately 2mile at 2.00 pm for ages 12 to 16.
Both these runs are classed as fun runs !!!!! so no numbers, times or places were given.
This may change next year.
We had a great turnout but would have had even more, however the organisers set a limit of so many entries on a first come first served basis, so a few of our juniors missed out.
The weather was intermittent with heavy showers just before the start of the Kiddars run but the sun came out at the end.
First Race Kiddars run participants
Rosa Tadele – Harry Robson – Lily Roxburgh and Lailah Motsi
Second Race Juniors run participants
Aiden Jones – Liam Coulson – Kallen 0’Neil – George Russell – Ayla Blight- Millie Robson – Cate Johnson – Niamh Logan – Charlotte Taylor
If we have missed anyone out please shout up and we will add on.
Well done everyone, your next chance to represent Elswick is in (NEYDL) North East Youth Development League at Shildon on the 30th June.
We are looking for a good turnout to maintain our place in the first division. All exams should be finished by then and most football matches. Andrea will be posting soon on Facebook, so make sure you get your names down as every point matters, this is when Elswick juniors come together to support each other.
