The culmination of this very worthy fundraising event happened today, 10th December 2020.
Thanks to all the North East Athletics Clubs who participated in the event, and the many individual members and supporters of Elswick Harriers who gave generous donations in honour of our highly respected and loved President, Colin Bolton.

It meant that Richard Houghton, Graham Bell and I had the privilege of presenting a cheque to Colin and staff at the Pavilion Court Care Home, where Colin now resides, to the tune of £2,200.00.
The total raised from the event amounted to £1,100.00 and the committee agreed to match this amount.
It was so pleasing to have Colin’s wife, Margaret, attend the presentation and see Colin for the first time in months due to the Covid-19 restrictions.
Colin clearly recognised Margaret and us. He obviously recognised the Elswick badges on our apparel. His large smile said so much and he was almost dancing with joy at seeing us all.

The funding will go towards providing some much needed special dementia friendly equipment.
This special day for Elswick Harriers began with an interview by committee member, Andy Ball, on the Alfie Joey BBC Radio morning show. Thanks to Andy for the excellent interview which acknowledged the huge and outstanding contribution that Colin has offered the club over so many years.

It also demonstrated the fact that Elswick Harriers is a well established and respected athletics club that has the local community at its heart.
A special thank you also to Men’s Captain, Richard Houghton, who organised the fundraising event on behalf of the club.
Harry Matthews,
Chairman.
