Sunday 20th June 2021 saw the second event in the NEYDL series of events where young athletes get the chance to try different events in track and field. Held at Churchill playing fields, Elswick Juniors participated in our joint team with South Shields.
It was great to see some athletes making their debut in an Elswick vest, and how fantastic they all were. Not forgetting the hard core of young athletes who constantly turn out for the club, some of whom competed in schools events at Gateshead the previous day. Great support from coaches, parents and grandparents etc.
The main players in these events are the athletes, however a special mention has to made for Kerrie Old, not only superbly organising the days events (despite a few issues with Facebook the day before) but organising the weather, all forecasts we had seen predicted rain. Kerrie was not having that and organised the sun !!!
As a joint team with South Shields we finished 4th team, (provisional results) but very close to second team. Blaydon 605 – Jarrow and Hebburn/ Phoenix Flyers 532 – Birtley/Tynebridge 526 – South Shields/ Elswick – 516 Gosforth 238 – Tynedale 208.
The next event is at the same venue 17th July, with a good turnout who knows where we might finish.
Well done everyone you are a credit to yourselves and the club.
