Weekly race round up 9th to 15th February

I hope everyone got loads of valentine cards and ready go shove Tuesday – a good training session is ideal for making room for those extra pancakes…

Signal Relays

Thanks to Felicity do for rounding the troops ahead of the relays, unfortunately a cold blast took its toll and made the course unsafe for the relays to take place.

Huge thanks to everyone involved for all their work to get the fixture in a position to take place, and quickly come up with an alternative date – the rearranged fixture will take place on the 14th March. This is a great opportunity to get people running together so let us know if you want to run.

The Heart Run

With a half marathon, 10km and 5km runners have their choice on how to show their love on valentines in the Californian sun and this wa age draw for one of our runners.

Kisi Hardman made the trip over the pond to run the valentines 5km (she might have been meeting fiancé Dan too), and the trip was worthwhile as she powered through to a 2nd place female finish and 9th overall.

Great to see the famous vest on tour – well done Kisi!

We’ve reduced the number of races slightly, included an internal race (helpers might be required), and hoping to have the Jelly T (Tynedale’s 10 miler) back.

If any races are cancelled, we’ll try and find a suitable replacement or hold an internal race.

Races:

*March – Cowbell (5km) if no XC

April – Blyth (10k)

**May – Internal (3km or 5km TBC)

June – Rest

July – Sunderland (5km)

August – Jelly T (10 miles)

September – Rest

October – Rest – use for cancellations

November – Heaton Memorial (10km)

December – Saltwell (10km)

January – Rest

February – Sherman Cup/Davision Shield (off road)

26/27 Rules: Best 2 5km, 2 10km, 1 long/off road. Runners must wear their Elswick race vest for official races (internal fixtures you can wear what you want).

Note: if a suitable like for like race can not be found, our replacement race will be ‘assumed’ the category in which it replaced i.e. an internal 5km replaces a 10 mile run, the replacement 5km race will count for the ‘long run’ points/standings.

*If Cowbell clashes with XC (very likely) we do a 3km track on a Saturday in May or June, date to be confirmed.

**If Cowbell goes ahead, we change the May 5km to a 3km on the track.

***Watergate is a popular 5km which we can consider for a backup race
