Weekly race round up 9th to 15th June.

Blaydon Race

With over 60 Elswick Harries running the famous race from Newcastle to Blaydon.

There were several age category podiums to celebrate and great to see lots of new faces in the Elswick vests. Mike kindly wrote the following on facebook earlier in the week.

“worthy of note was that first male home was one of our incredible juniors Sam Allison (Emily Allison’s little bro) whilst first female was the ever-rapid Justina Heslop.

Further congratulations to Mark Turnbull, Jason Old, John Rippon, David Walton, Nigel Hollier, Felicity Smith and, once again, Justina, who all finished top 3 in their categories. Sam & Bella Russell just missed out coming home in 4th.

Final well done to everyone who completed their first Blaydon Race, especially our None2Run graduates and the other juniors who ran their first Blaydon; Ava Durham, Aiden Jones & Sydney Bungay”

North East Senior Development League

The June fixture was held at Churchill Playing Fields – Whitley Bay.

Athletes have their pick of events as we can field up to 4 competitors per event.

It was another good turnout from Elswick on a sunny but windy day. It was nice to see some new faces and Eric would love to see more taking part to help boost our points scoring and remain in league 1.

The Lakesman Half

I believe we only had Mark Turnbull brave enough to take on the Lakesman this year.

Despite a few toilet stops Mark finishing an impressive 4th in his age category – this event was a British Triathlon Championships so the field would have been stacked making Mark’s result even more impressive!

Information Notice:

Track and Field Training – Saturday’s at Wentworth

With only one race to report on this week it’s a good opportunity to shout about the track and field sessions on Saturday morning at Wentworth Leisure Centre.

With various events to try, all supported by our wonderful coaches, it’s a perfect introduction to track and field and boost that speed for the road events.

Everyone is welcome so please don’t be shy give it a try… If you want more information, feel free to ask any of the coaches.

Sunday Long Run

A reminder we have two regular groups running from the leisure centre on a Sunday heading out for long social runs. Everyone is welcome to these, even nonmembers, so if you have family or friends that wants company on a long run bring them down. Again, speak to your coaches for more information.

Elswick Harriers River Run

We’re hosting our annual River Run on the 18th June and could do with a few more helpers on the course to make sure the runners have a fun and safe race.

If you want to run, feel free to enter, but could I ask if you do run, could you help on car parking duties?

Keep an eye on facebook for a request for volunteers or speak to Ben.

Still time to enter too, please advertise to your family, friends, or anyone else you think might be interested.
